John Archibald Coleman, Jr.

April 9, 1926 — January 9, 2020

John A. Coleman was born April 9, 1926 to John Coleman and Bertie Alexander Coleman. He died January 9, 2020 at 93 years and 9 months.
John met Vertalee Brock in the 5th grade and married her May 1, 1947 after returning from his Navy service during WWII. They lived in Roanoke, TX for most of their married life.
John was a locomotive engineer for the Rock Island Railroad. He was an active member of the Methodist Church first in Roanoke and then in Trophy Club. He was a 50-year member o the Masonic Lodge 668 of Roanoke, served as past master, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He formed Scout Troop 141 and served several years as its leader.
After John and Vertalee retired they enjoyed RVing and going on cruises. He was a volunteer for the Metroport Meals and enjoyed gardening,
John is survived by his loving wife, Vertalee, daughter Estelle Miller and husband Ron, daughter-in-law Donna Coleman, son Dale Coleman and wife Ann; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sarah Darden; sisters-in-law Ellen Lovett, Jean Morrow, Linda Brock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Derle Coleman, and son, John Alan Coleman.
