John Michael Franznick died unexpectedly after a short illness in Grapevine, TX on March 22, 2023, at the age of 63. He was born on Aug 25, 1959, in Nuremberg, Germany to John “Jack” and Carol (née Wilmore) Franznick. The family moved frequently in his youth before settling in Topeka, KS where John graduated from Washburn High School in 1977.
John worked on an ambulance crew for 10 years in Topeka before getting into the media/magazine business that took him and his family to Illinois, living briefly in both Woodstock and Quincy. He eventually settled in the DFW area in 1995 where he later became president of Media Solutions. John served as a hardworking and dedicated leader, who with his employees, was very proud of the great successes of the company. Under John’s leadership, Media Solutions became the exclusive supplier of thousands of magazines and other products to some of the top bookstores, travel centers and specialty retailers in the U.S. In November 2021, John helped with the sale of the company and retired from the magazine business. John was happy in retirement and kept busy with many new projects and endeavors. With his varied experiences, John had a wealth of knowledge on many subjects.
John loved being a father to his two children, Taryn born in 1984 and Tanner in 1989 and was an active fan on the sidelines of their athletic events for the Carroll Dragons. He married Elizabeth (Liz) Dowd on May 19, 2013. They built a loving home in Grapevine where they enjoyed entertaining family, friends, and neighbors. John was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. He was taken home too soon.
John is survived by his loving wife, Liz, his two children: Taryn of Minneapolis, MN, and Tanner of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Michael (Susan) Franznick of Palmer, AK, and Kelly (Tricia) Franznick of Bainbridge, WA, in addition to his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
