JOHN GILL, JR., age 98, a WWII veteran and a resident of Watauga, died Monday, September 16, 2013.

Mass of a Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20th at St John the Apostle Catholic Church in Ft Worth. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Lucas Funeral Home of Hurst.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to one of John's favorite charities: Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, St John the Apostle Catholic Church, or St John the Apostle Catholic School.

Born May 11, 1915 in Ludlow, PA, he was the son of John Gill, Sr. and Mary Radzik Gill. He married Josephine (Jo) Omasta on July 22, 1939 in Michigan. He managed stores in the grocery business for 10 years and retired from Dayton Hudson after 25 years of service selling men's clothing.

After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Texas to be closer to their sons, and they continued to enjoy their summers at their cabin in White Cloud, MI. Shortly after celebrating their 51st anniversary, he lost his "little Jo" to cancer. He then became active in the Knights of Columbus working on many special events including garage sales, the annual carnival, and fish fries. He also assisted with the church's Clothes Closet and Food Pantry. He organized a satellite distribution center for Meals on Wheels at St. John's. He also served on the North East Tarrant County Advisory Council. For his contributions to the community, he was awarded the Outstanding Older American Award in 2007. After working with Meals on Wheels for over 18 years, he was nominated and won the 2010 American Volunteer of the year for Meals on Wheels. He loved volunteering and helping others. He was known as High-5 John especially with all of the children at St John the Apostle Catholic School. He also loved spending time with his family and enjoying his hobby, horticulture.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Sam, sister Ann, daughter in-law Helen, and granddaughter Dianna. Survivors include; sister Ollie; son Jim; son Jerry and wife Monica; three grandchildren, Mike, Debbie and husband Mike, and Megan and husband Denis; six great grandchildren, Dacia and fiancé Mike, Amy and fiancé Paul, Amanda and husband Agustin, Rachelle, Amber and husband Adrian, and Michael; seven great-great grandchildren, Aguie, Gabriel, Isabel, Kaleb, Alisander, Julia, and Arden.
