John Henry Grimes

February 5, 1935 — July 24, 2023

John Henry Grimes, resident of Burleson, Texas passed away on July 24, 2023 at Crowley Nursing Facility at the age of 88. John was born February 5, 1935. He was the 9th of 10 children born to Sis Annie and Elbert Grimes. He was raised in Hamlin, Texas. Many stories were told by his mom and siblings about how mischievous he was growing up, but also so sweet and loving. He met the love of his life Billie Moore and they began their 59-year marriage in 1955. They had three children, Janet, Eddie and Julie. He provided for his family by working at Safeway and Minyard’s until his retirement. He loved the simple things in life. He loved being outdoors and working in his garden. He was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching his son play sports as a youth, continuing with watching his grandsons play sports through their youth ending with watching his son coach his Burleson Friday Night Football games. He had a love for old Country Music and Western Movies. Many words that were used to describe him are humble, private, gentle, sweet and kind. He lost the love of his life, Billie, in 2014. In 2017, he moved to Huguley Independent Retirement Facility. Here he met many new friends, he actually never met a stranger and was loved by so many. He enjoyed playing cornhole and Dominos with many at the retirement facility and a group of men from Church. In 2019 he met a special friend, Winnie Bentley. He and Winnie shared many good times together. One thing his children and grandchildren never questioned was his love for them. He was dedicated to each and every one.
Survivors: Daughter, Janet Deel; Son, Eddie and wife Karyn Grimes and daughter, Julie Grimes. John was known as “Papaw” and had the following grandchildren. Misti and husband Tony Serrano, Matt and wife Chelsey Deel, Will and wife Emilia Grimes, Drew and wife Hannah Grimes and Luke Grimes. His great grandchildren are: Kaleb Serrano, Seth Serrano, Hannah Serrano, Jacob Deel, Haeden Grimes, Hadley Grimes, Samuel Deel and Lenni Grimes.
