John Thomas Heffernan, 92, of Watauga, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2024 after an onset of Alzheimer's.
John was born on January 25, 1932 to Michael Heffernan and Sarah Rowland in Independence, Iowa. After graduating from high school, he went on to enlist in the United States Air Force. He loved the Air Force and served his country until retiring after 26 years as a Master Sargent. While serving during the Korean War, he met and fell in love with Yukie Kamegaya. They were married in Tokyo, Japan on November 10, 1955 and were with each other until Yukie passed away on October 17, 2007. After retiring from the Air Force, John hired on with the United States Postal Service and delivered mail until retiring from the USPS. John and Yukie would have 2 children, John Michael Heffernan and Patrick Guy Heffernan. John was a wonderful and devoted father, husband and coach. He always taught the value of work hard and supported us all throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties of our lives. John loved playing fast-pitch softball, racing motorcycles and having fun. He loved coaching baseball and wrestling, and even inspired descendants to serve in the United States military. He was also a member of the Masons. An avid golfer, John dedicated much of his time late in life perfecting his swing. John was devoted to his church and served his Lord by sharing in Bible studies.
John is survived by John Michael and Patrick Guy, 7 grand-children and 13 great-grand-children. There will be a service and honor guard at Venture Church at 11:00 AM, April 6, 2024 at 801 Keller Parkway, Keller, Texas.
