John Thomas Hunt Sr. was born in Greenville Texas February 17th, 1918 and called home February ,2020. Just short of his 102nd birthday. When He was 8, john moved to Corpus Christi with his father and siblings. Growing up on the coast, he became an avid fisherman and spent much of his time swimming in the gulf, eating shrimp and fried fish. John married the love of his life, Helen Edwards on March 1st, 1941. John was a Navy Seabee stationed in Dutch Harbor Alaska and deployed to Okinawa during World War II. After the war John utilized his carpentry and construction skills, building Methodist churches for the High Plains Methodist Church Conference. His friends, family and Methodist employers liked to lovingly tease John who was devout Baptist. Often saying why do you build for the Methodist and worship with the Baptist? Helen and John had four children, Barbara Lynn, John Thomas Jr and wife Melanie, Charles Richard and Melody Ann Poole and husband Greg; one granddaughter Michele Litchfield and two great grandsons Daniel and Hayden Litchfield; nephew, Gale Hawkins. John was a devoted and loving, Husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Helen passed away a few months shy of what would have been their 77th anniversary. Many thought John would soon follow, but he surprised everyone with his amazing, strength, character and faith in God. John Loved the lord and had a strong relationship with Christ, living out a long, full life of servitude. Leaning on his faith, John stayed with us 2 and a half years after Helen passed. He used this time to care for others in the assisted living and share the gospel. John’s wonderful spirit will be missed, but we can take comfort in the knowledge that we will see him again one day and that he is once again with his beloved Helen.
