John Charles (“Jack”) King, 78, of Haslet, Texas, passed away Monday, May 1, peacefully in his home in the arms of his loving wife, Karin.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Karin (Rossevold) King; his daughters Michelle Sparks and Kellie Alexander; his son-in-law, Dave Alexander and his granddaughter, and the apple of his eye, Alana Marie “Lanie” Alexander.
Also surviving are his sisters, Eleanor Berczik (the late Steve), of Manchester, CT, and Linda King (David), of Daisytown, PA, his brother-in-law, Steinar Rossevold of Aalesund, Norway, as well as cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. King was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Michael and Julia King, sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Alexander Kash III and son-in-law, Greg Sparks.
Mr. King graduated from California (PA) Area High School and enlisted with the United States Air Force following graduation. After serving in the Air Force, he attended DeVry Institute in Chicago where he studied electronics. Upon graduation, he moved to the Monterey Peninsula where he worked for Western Electric, and then became a civil servant, working at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he held various positions, most recently as an aeronautic technician, until his retirement in 1995.
In 1964, soon after his arrival on the Monterey Peninsula, he met the love of his life, Karin Rossevold, and they were married on July 24, 1965 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Mr. King was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and NRA. He was an avid golfer in his younger years, performed with the Little Theater at the Navy School and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and silhouette shooting. He particularly enjoyed the time he spend as a Watch DOG at his granddaughter’s school. He was a lifetime member of Steeler Nation, an enthusiastic NASCAR follower (especially Jeff Gordon) and a season ticketholder with the Texas Rangers and treasured the time he spent at the ballpark with his loving wife, family and ballpark family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, in the Lucas Funeral Home, 1601 S. Main St., Keller. Following the memorial, a reception will be held at the Alexander home.
Private family interment will take place at a future date at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors.
