John Penner

October 24, 1932 — June 10, 2023

John Penner, 90, of Bedford, Tx., went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2023.
John was born in Hillsboro, Kansas, a Mennonite community, on October 24, 1932 to Anna and Jacob Penner. John married Betty Lou Kliewer in 1958 and together they had two daughters, Sharon and Donna. John served in the US Army at Fort Riley, Kansas and was honorably discharged in 1962. John attended Kansas State University and USC earning degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. John worked as an engineer at Douglas Aircraft in California on the Mercury space program in the early 1960's. The Penner family move to Texas in 1969 where John was owner of Williamson Battery Co. in Ft. Worth, TX. and was later employed at Bell Helicopter as an engineer on the Osprey for the military until his retirement.
John enjoyed gardening and building things. He always built his daughters a playhouse at every new residence complete with a working phone and a kitchen sink. In the 1970's, John made an electric powered car using an old Renault body.
John liked coffee, German chocolate cake and black licorice. John had a pragmatic outlook on life and a dry sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John is survived by wife Sue Penner, daughters Sharon Penner and Donna Penner, all of Texas. John was preceded in death by his parents: Jacob & Anna, wife Betty Penner, bother Henry Penner and two half-brothers Jake Jr. and Peter Penner.
John was a member of First Baptist Church in Hurst, Tx. Memorial services will be held at DFW National Cemetery on July 20 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers to honor the memory of John, we ask donations be made to the Texas Baptist Men organization or Habitat for Humanity.
