TROPHY CLUB -- John Henry Schlenger, III, 62, passed away August 15, 2012.        Service: 10:00am Tuesday, August 21 at Lucas Funeral Home Chapel in Keller. Visitation will be held prior to service from 9:30a-10:00a. Burial will be private at DFW National Cemetery.        John was born in Chicago, IL., on February 8th, 1950, to Dorothy Behnke and Charles Shoemaker. He was rambunctious as a youngster, but somehow managed to graduate from West Lyden High School in 1968. He bravely served his country in the U.S. Army, First Calvary Division, serving in the Vietnam War, from 1971 until 1973.        Upon arriving in San Francisco after his final tour in Vietnam, he stopped into a pub and had a local Anchor Steam Brewery Beer, and it remained one of his favorites ever since because it "tasted like freedom" (as he told the story).        John married the love of his life, Donna McQuade, on August 23rd, 1975 and the two were happily married for 37 years. He graduated from Western Illinois University in the same year. John and Donna had their only son, Ryan, in October of 1983. John brought his family to Trophy Club, Texas in 1987 and he began a career as the Director of Security of Solana, working for McGuire Partners for 25 years.        John loved grilling, cold beer, and TCU Football.nothing made him happier than to combine all three. He was active in the community, serving as treasurer for the Northwest ISD Athletic Booster club from 2000 until 2002.        John will be remembered fondly by all who knew him and will be enormously missed by family, friends, and neighbors.        Proceeded in death by his Mother, Father, and Sister, Cookie Shotts.        Survivors: Wife: Donna Schlenger, Son: Ryan Schlenger, Daughter-in-Law: Ashley Schlenger; and a huge extended family who all loved him dearly.
