John Andrew Van Slyke, 17, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, surrounded by family and friends in Grapevine.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father Michael Greco officiating. Interment: Medlin Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home – Keller Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.
John Andrew Van Slyke was born Nov. 23, 1999, in St. Louis, Mo., son of Daniel and Laura Van Slyke. John accelerated academically and had an exceptional memory. He loved to treat his siblings, going to Grapevine Lake and entertaining others and truly accepted people for who they are. John had a very loving, giving, and caring heart and was generous with his siblings. He worked many long hours at Panda Express in Roanoke.
Survivors: Parents, Daniel and Laura Van Slyke; siblings, Jerome Maximilian (10), Damian Augustine (6), Mary Magdalene (19), Mary Morningstar (15), Martha Bethany (14), and Josephine Felicity (8); grandparents, Roger and Charlene Van Slyke and Cherif and Sarah Faidi; uncle, Joel and Carrie Van Slyke; aunts, Kristina Van Slyke, Jessica and husband, Allen Vasut, Meriem Curtil and husband, Dimitri, Lisa Hardenbergh and husband, Evan; cousins, Ross, Jordan, Victoria, Lillian, Thomas, Luca, and Theo; and a host of loving family and friends.
