John B. Wells, age 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Saturday, January 7, 2023. A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas.
John was born Friday, December 9, 1932 in Huckabay, Texas. He was raised in the Methodist Church by his loving parents and grew up with two older brothers. John graduated from Huckabay High School as valedictorian of his class and then joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. During his time in the service, he met his wife, Mary Nell Wisdom, and they were married on November 16, 1952. They bought a house in Haltom City and joined Riverside Methodist Church where they made many life-long friends. John attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, and they later moved to Hurst, Texas where they had two daughters, Allison and Holly. They joined First United Methodist Church of Hurst and were active members for many years until moving to Shady Oaks Baptist Church in 1981. John worked at Bell Helicopter for nearly forty years, traveling the world and working on many key military projects including the development of the v-22 osprey. John retired in 1998 and enjoyed the last 20+ years spending quality time with family, attending church with Mary and managing the family farm.
John is predeceased by his parents, Bernie and Virginia Wells; brother Calvin Wells; brother Eugene Wells and wife, Mary Frances; Nephews, Robert Wells and Jim Wells; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Ruthie Wisdom; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty June Passmore; brother-in-law, Buddy Wisdom; nephew, Kent Wisdom; and niece-in-law, Elizabeth Passmore.
John’s surviving family include his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Wisdom Wells; daughter, Allison Wells Elliott and husband, Chris Anderson; daughter, Holly Wells; grandchildren, Audrey Elliott, Andrew Elliott, Emily Elliott, Marcus Miller and Sailor Skipworth; sister-in-law, Doris Wisdom; niece, Cheryl Wisdom; niece, Susan Blomdahl and husband, Kelly; nephew, Stephen Passmore and wife, Becky; nephew, Scott Passmore and wife, Jodie; and many beloved cousins and extended family.
