Johnny Almendarez, Jr.

December 2, 1949 — November 13, 2023

Johnny Almendarez, Jr, 73, of Grapevine, TX, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. Johnny was born December 2, 1949, in Houston, TX, to John Almendarez, Sr. and Mary Laredo. Johnny has resided in Grapevine, TX, for the last 43 years.
Johnny was a proud veteran of the United States Army and worked as a warehouse manager until his retirement in 2007.
Johnny was the eldest of 9 siblings and the absolute rock of his family. 1967, Johnny met Linda, who became his best friend, bride, and soulmate for 53 years. Together and by the Grace of God, they raised three beautiful daughters, Melissa, Christie, and Isabel, who in turn gave him 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Johnny was a strong and proud man who left little doubt about his Love of God and that his family was his life.
Johnny enjoyed his life by playing softball for years, caring for his grandkids, working in his yard and taking every opportunity to spend time with his family and friends.
Johnny was also passionate about his Oilers, Texans, Rockets, and Houston Astros. One of our families’ fondest memories will always be Destin, FL, 2023. Despite his illness, he travelled to Destin to spend time with his entire family for one last family vacation.
Johnny’s illness was apparent and diagnosed 3 years ago; over that time, the Love of his life, Linda, never left his side; through all the highs and lows, Linda and his girls gave their Love, care and support to Johnny. His family cared for him with every ounce of dignity, LOVE and respect that he shared with them.
Johnny leaves behind his beloved wife Linda; Daughters Melissa Vandiver; Husband William, Christie Garza, Husband Mike, Isabel Andreas, Husband Ross; Grandchildren Kyle, Jonathan, Eryn, Michael, Dana, Danielle, Ryan and Reid; Great Grandchildren Sophia and Aiden; Sisters, Belinda Almendarez, Suzanne Yepez, Antoinette Maldonado, and Jennifer Ruiz; Brothers, Victor Almendarez and Lupe Piaz; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family and friends.
He preceded Johnny in death, his parents, John Almendarez, Sr, and Mary Laredo, his brothers Joel Almendarez and Albert “Rene” Almendarez, and his sister-in-law Kerri Almendarez.
The Almendarez Family would like to send their Love and thanks to the entire Bernal Family and all those who have been so supportive throughout Johnny’s homegoing Journey. We love you All immensely!
