Jon Alan Smallwood

November 6, 1958 — July 28, 2019

Jon Alan Smallwood was born on November 6, 1958 in Madison
Wisconsin to Herb and Lona Smallwood and older sister Cathy.

Jon’s early years were spent travelling with his military family to
many locations within the United States. One of their
Assignments were to Templehof AFB, Berlin Germany. The family spent several happy and adventure filled years in Germany and returned with many precious keepsakes from their travels.

The family’s last military Assignment was Sheppard AFB in
Wichita Falls, they settled in Iowa Park. During high school, Jon made many lifelong friends and golf buddies on the Iowa Park HS golf team. Jon graduated from Iowa Park HS in 1976.
After graduation, Jon attended Texas Tech for two years where
He met Ellen. After his college stay, Jon returned to Iowa
Park to join Herb in the family’s home restoration business. Jon
had many humorous stories to tell from all the people they
met and worked with.

In 1985, Jon and Ellen married and eventually moved to
Bedford. Two children were born – Jacob in 1986 and Sarah in
1990.

Jon began working for Color Tile in 1985 constructing the room
sets used for advertising photography. After several years with
Color Tile he made the change to being self-employed in home
remodeling.

During Jon’s time with the family in Bedford, they enjoyed
camping, boating and all things outdoors – especially cooking
on the smoker. There were lots of campouts with extended
family. His most happy times were spent with his kids and the
family dog Rascal.

The family were long time members of Peace Lutheran Church.
Jon was active in several volunteer activities including being a
Sound tech for worship services, Vacation Bible School, singing
with the choir, and assisting with preparing meals for the Peace
Life Fellowship. Jon loved hymns and could relay interesting
facts about how, when and why many hymns were written.
Jon’s hobbies also included being an avid golfer. He loved
playing anywhere and any time with family and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Lona.
He is survived by his wife Ellen, son Jacob and his wife Crissy,
daughter Sarah Guthrie and her husband Roman Guthrie and
five grandchildren Lucy Smallwood, Charlotte Smallwood, Rhett
Guthrie, Rebel Guthrie, Reagan Guthrie, and sister Cathy
Loucks and her husband Buck Loucks and many extended family
members.

We will be remembering Jon, August 5, 2019 at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, Texas and request casual attire as we celebrate his life together.
