Joseph Hoegler, 84, of Keller, Texas, died peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and true friend to all that knew and loved him. He was born on July 1, 1934 in Tiefental, Yugoslavia, to Joseph and Pauline (Hoenigman) Hoegler. In 1950, at age 15, he came with his family to the United States on the Queen Mary, to start a new life. He served honorably in the United States Army with the 1st Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment in Fort Carson, Colorado from 1956-1958. After his tour with the Army, he married the love of his life, Mary Bodahelyi in Cleveland, Ohio, October 31, 1959. Joe, with the help of his father and brothers, built the house in Highland Heights, Ohio, where Joe and Mary lived together for 30 years while raising 3 children. Joe loved gardening, home improvement, current events, making wine, watching movies, playing cards and the occasional trip to McDonalds. He took great pride in the large variety of fruit trees that grew in his large backyard, which produced the best apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, raspberries, chestnuts, grapes and more. Joe retired from General Electric after 33 years of service and in 1991, Joe and Mary moved to Texas to be near their grandchildren. He was a proud grandpa and was lovingly referred to as ‘Papa’ by his grandkids, who will always cherish the memories of coming over to his house in Keller, Texas and swimming with him in the pool or just having a piece of cake or a cookie together.
He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Luce and husband Bill, of Colleyville, TX; daughter Lisa Green of Watauga, TX; son Eric Hoegler and wife Samantha, of San Benito, TX; brother Ron Hoegler and wife Kathy of Independence, OH; 7 grandchildren: Madison, Sabrina, Jacob, Cassidy, Mackenzie, Roy, and Hudson; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Joe is at peace now, together with Mary, his loving wife of 59 years. Remembered as a man who was devoted to his family, Joe's generosity will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hoegler; sister, Amelia (Margie) Pfaff, and brother Arthur Hoegler.
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2019 in Bourland Cemetery in Keller, Texas.
