His father and two uncles worked as the town blacksmiths in the early 1900s.        Knox served in the Army-Air Force in World War II as a corporal, during which time he met and married his loving wife of 67 years, Lorene Bailey. He was also co-owner of Pankey's Auto Supply in Fort Worth, as well as partners with his original "partner," son Tom, in two hardware stores in Keller and Roanoke, and as co-owners of Towne West Shopping Center.        He was one of several men who worked to provide a bank for the town of Keller, traveling to Austin to speak before the banking committee to gain approval to establish Keller State Bank in 1971. He served along with these men on the board of directors until the bank merged with Frost Bank in 1999.        Knox was honored to be elected as Keller's first mayor in November of 1955, serving three terms. He later served an additional two terms as a city councilman.        He was a faithful member of the Keller Church of Christ for over 50 years, serving as a deacon for several decades and then as an elder before moving to Bowie in 1992.        "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."--Psalm 73:26        Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Lorene; daughter, Janelle Dennis of Lewisville; daughter, Susan Aston and husband, Mike, of Abilene; son, Tom Knox and wife, Jan, of Downers Grove, Ill.; grandchildren, Jolene McDonie of Lewisville, Julie Conary of McKinney, Jeremy Dennis of Lewisville, Jordan Aston of Lubbock, Jared Aston of Los Angeles, Calif., Melanie Larson of Albuquerque, N.M., Justin Knox of Plano; and six great-grandchildren.
