Joseph Matranga (Joey), resident of Burleson, TX passed away on June 3, 2023, at the age of 16.
Joey was born on October 20, 2006, to Tommy Matranga of Burleson, TX and Lori Beth Burns of Jefferson, TX.
Joey grew up in Burleson playing soccer. His favorite pastime was gaming on Xbox with the many friends he made online and building with Legos. Joey liked to have calamari on his birthday. He had a caring heart and gave great hugs. He was intelligent, thoughtful, funny and creative. He liked Snoopy and was sometimes called “Joe Cool”. He loved to listen to music and the rain. And he could dance! He loved to entertain and enjoyed swimming and especially time spent at the water parks. He was a good storyteller and a creative writer, and he was honored to have “MY Story” proudly displayed on the wall at Kerr Middle School. One 6th grade student each year is selected to receive the Jason Lenz Award for displaying exceptional character, integrity and overcoming adversity. Joey was the recipient of this award on May 10, 2019. Thankfully he removed the Harry Potter cape he was wearing before he went on stage to accept the award. Joey loved the Buffalo Ranch Chicken from What A Burger, anything with Nutella in it and strawberries with whipped cream. When visiting his family in East Texas, he looked forward to attending Cypress Valley Bible Church in Marshall. He also loved visiting extended family in NJ, visiting the Jersey Shore, New York City and going white water rafting.
Joey might have been small in stature, but he had a very big heart. His parents honored this trait by allowing Joey to save lives through the Life Gift Organ Donation Program. They were able to find recipients for ALL of Joey’s organs.
Left to grieve his passing are so many people whose lives he touched in a positive way. To know Joey was to love Joey.
He is survived by parents Tommy Matranga of Burleson and Lori Beth Burns of Jefferson, brother Jake Matranga of Burleson, sister Micah Bankston of Marshall. Grandparents Tom and Carol Matranga of Burleson and Tony and Sherry Bankston of Marshall. Aunt Gina Robinson and husband Kyle, uncle Chris Bankston and wife Holly, Uncle Jeff Bankston, and his cousins and extended family. Also left to miss him is his dog Lucy who was always by his side.
