Josie "Gerrie" Callaway, 89, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 in Keller, TX.
Visitation with the family will be held at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St. Grapevine, on Friday, Feb 12th 4:30-6:30. Graveside Services will be Saturday, 1:00 at Elm Branch Cemetery, Bardwell, TX.
Josie ‘Gerrie’ Callaway was born to a farming family in Chatfield, Texas. She and her four brothers and sister worked on the farm growing up. Josie developed a personal strength and strong work ethic that she carried through out her life from growing up in a farming family.
After graduating high school at Avalon High School in Avalon, Tx in 1950, Josie moved to Corsicana, Tx to begin working and later to Dallas, Tx. Josie’s career included administrative positions and bookkeeping.
Josie enjoyed working with her hands and had several hobbies including crochet, needle point and ceramics. The ceramics hobby led to a business selling her goods at the Canton First Monday Market in Canton, Tx for nearly 20 years.
After retirement, Josie enjoyed doing food demos in grocery stores and finished her career with a part time position in a bakery. After finally retiring at the age of 79, she enjoyed spending time with her family that she cherished greatly.
Josie is remembered as a caring, loving and generous daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, J.T. and Opal Steele;
Brothers, Charles Steele, Neilan Steele, and Joe Steele.
Gerrie is survived by her son and his wife, Curtis and Tonia Callaway; Grandsons, Braden and Logan Callaway; Sister, Tommie Faye Worthy, and Brother, James Steele.
