Joy Jane (Newman) Calhoun
September 13, 1943 – August 25, 2023
Joy was born and raised in Hurst Texas. She grew up in a rundown farm house on South Precinct Line Road. The house had running water, but no indoor toilet, air conditioning, or heat. Her chores included feeding the chickens, milking the cows, and other assorted tasks that helped put food on the table.
Marrying Paul Calhoun in 1963, Joy and Paul stayed in the HEB area where they raised their three children. Joy spent many happy years working as the Church Secretary for First United Methodist Church – Colleyville, before retiring to care for her elderly mom.
As the last decade has been full of health challenges for Joy, she became a permanent resident of Westpark Rehabilitation where her amazing caregivers knew her as ‘Miss Joy’.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Calhoun; parents W.J. & Nell Newman; brothers Lawrence Haggard and Charlie “Booger Red” Newman; sister Louise Cropp; and granddaughter Tabitha Calhoun. Joy is survived by brother Sterling Newman (Mary); daughter, Teresa Womble (Paul); sons Keith Calhoun (Toni) and Dale Calhoun (Heather); grandchildren Luke Womble, Katie Womble, Claudia Calhoun, Josh Calhoun, Billie Gibbins, Lexie Gibbins, Mallory Haby, Cassidy Calhoun, Chloe Calhoun, Addyson Calhoun; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their humble gratitude to all the staff at Westpark Rehabilitation for their many years of devotion to Miss Joy.
