Joy Anne Henson, 86, of Colleyville TX, passed away July 19th in her home surrounded by her family.
Joy was born July 17, 1935, in Fort Worth TX. to Ralph and Beatrice Eubank. She graduated from Poly High School and Texas Wesleyan College. She was a member of Alpha Chi.
Joy married her sweetest love, Jim Henson, on December 22, 1959. They had a love story like no other. She and Jim had two daughters, Lisbeth Jane, and Heather Lynn. She was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of being a mother and she did it very well.
Joy taught in FWISD for her entire career. She adored children and she loved teaching them. The highlight for her would be when one of her babies, “Got it!”. She took care of her students far beyond the classroom. Many times, she quietly clothed, washed, fed, and loved on those children who just didn’t have enough. She went in early and stayed late to be certain that her class would have every advantage possible. She and Jim paid for several children to have scholarships so they could further their education. She was a true educator.
She loved traveling and going to the symphony with Jim. But when she became “Nanny”, everything paled in comparison. She retired early. She loved her Tessa Noël and Gabriel Nolan. Then life was complete with the addition of her two great grandsons, Colt Wayne and Carter James.
Although Joy was very reserved and quiet and many saw that as timid; she was incredibly strong. She fought Alzheimer’s for over 15 years.
Joy loved many things in her life. Family, friends, teaching…. But she loved her Savior Jesus most of all and is now where she spent her whole life heading towards, His arms. Joy would never let her family miss this chance to tell anyone seeing this that if you don’t know Jesus, find someone right now and they will help you.
Joy is proceeded in death by her parents, Ralph and Bea Eubank, her brother, Ralph Cary Eubank Jr., her daughter, Lisbeth Jane Henson, and her husband James Ray Henson.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather Seeley, her granddaughter, Tessa Grissett and her husband Cody Grissett, her grandson, Gabe Seeley and his wife, Maddie Seeley and her great grandsons, Colt and Carter Grissett.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or donate towards a child’s scholarship in her memory.
