Judith Carmen Land, 92, passed away on March 1, 2023. She was born April 14, 1930, in Neuhaus am Rennweg, Germany. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Land.
Mom’s fondest early memories were spending time with her maternal grandparents who owned a hotel and livery. She always credited her grandmother for teaching her how to cook and bake. She often described the hardships of coming of age in WWII in Coburg, Germany. It was there that she met the love of her life, a young US serviceman, James Land, whom she married in 1952. While stationed in Monterey, CA, she became a proud US citizen.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, whose expertise in cooking, baking, needlecrafts, and knitting were legendary in her family. For over 20 years, Mom followed Dad from one military post to another, making a warm and loving home for her family, regardless of the circumstances of the military housing.
Not only did Mom care for her family, she also served the community as a Red Cross volunteer and a Brownie troop leader. Despite her many commitments to family and community, Mom never missed a Little League baseball game or a swim meet. Once Dad retired, she perfected her baking skills, becoming a pastry chef.
Judith is survived by her: three children Glynda (DiDi) Land-Schultz of Roedental, Germany; Susann Land of North Richland Hills, TX; and Frank (Terri) Land of Lewisville, TX; four grandchildren: Thomas Greiner, Amber (Simon) Chilton, Melodie (Stephen) Angelone, Vivien (David) Lane; six great-grandchildren; and beloved sister-in-law Cherie Reynolds and niece Anita Reynolds.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Rd, Hurst, TX, on Saturday March 25, 2023, at 11am. Memorial donations to Metroport Meals on Wheels, P. O. Box 204, Roanoke, TX 76262 or online at
