Ft. Worth, TX – Judy Derrick Laviolette, 62, was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on February 13, 1958 and died peacefully in Ft. Worth, Texas on December 1, 2020. She was the daughter of Johnnie and Joy Derrick of Shreveport, Louisiana. Judy was raised in Shreveport.

Judy graduated from Southwood High School in 1976; in 1979 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from Louisiana Tech University. Judy was accepted into Louisiana State University Medical College and completed her Doctorate in Medicine in 1984; and she continued her Academics at LSU Medical College where she received her certification in Internal Medicine.

Judy began her medical career as an Internal Medicine Doctor at Highland Clinic and served as APMC for Highland Shreveport. She continued her 35-year medical career by serving in many different roles. She was the Chief Medical Officer/VPMA at Christus Schumpert Health System; Overton Brooks VA Medical Center where she cared for our Veterans; Chief Medical Officer for Texas Health Resources at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne, TX and Azle, TX, from where she recently retired. Judy was an amazing physician and will be dearly missed by her colleagues and patients.

Judy was a devoted Christian and a HUGE supporter of religious, social and non-profit organizations that she believed would impact her communities. One of Judy’s favorite non-profits was Rock Solid Impact Center, where her son would spend his childhood and young adulthood. In her youth, Judy attended and was baptized at Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. She would later join Grace Community Church in Shreveport, LA.

Judy loved BIG! She loved God, her husband, her parents, her friends, her family, her colleagues, her patients and her community. She was fond of a nice wine tasting event, or the simplest of dinners with great friends, as long as laughter was included. Judy was a deep thinker, yet, she also had the ability to be silly at just the right times. Judy was an incredible doctor by day, and an incredible soccer manager/supporter/friend by evening. She was generous, kind and would give anyone anything that was in her capacity to give. Judy’s greatest love and accomplishment in life was her son, Grant. In the 22 years he was alive, Judy devoted every ounce of her being to give him a beautiful life.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Martin Derrick and her son, Grant Joseph Laviolette. She is survived by her mother, Joy F. Derrick from Shreveport, LA; her husband, Keith L. McCormick of Ft. Worth, TX; her uncles Sam C. Derrick (Brenda), Carl A. Derrick (Frances), James R. Derrick (Jill); her aunt, Barbara Fields Stocks (Charles); and cousins, Rob Shadoin, Terri Trigg Stark and Jay Stark.
