Karen Cargile
July 14 1947-April 1 2023
Hurst, Texas
Karen, to her family and so many others, was wife, mom, Nanny and friend.
She was born on July 14, 1947, in York, Pennsylvania to parents James W. Gerrard and Alice Johnson Gerrard. Her biological mother, Alice, passed away at a young age and her father, Jerry, remarried Adelene Simmons Gerrard in September of 1957. Karen was very close with Ad and considered her as a mom.
Karen moved to Dallas around 1960 where she attended Thomas Jefferson High School. She then attended Lon Morris College where she met Andrew Cargile and they eventually married on January 15, 1968. They had two daughters: Kristen born March 1, 1974, and Kourtney born May 26, 1978.
Karen began her career working in HEBISD at Shady Oaks and Donna Park. She also worked in DISD at Hillcrest High School before returning to HEBISD and working at Hurst Junior High, Harwood Junior High and, finally, Central Junior High where she finished her career as the Attendance Clerk until retiring in 2005.
Karen built relationships with many students throughout her career simply through her kind and caring personality. She maintained these relationships long after students left her school and began families of their own. She served as second mom to so many of her former students.
Once she loved you, you were always family.
Karen loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world. Supporting them and attending their events brought her pride and joy. From soccer to basketball to dance, drama, and baseball, she was front row for it all. She was their biggest fan and most trusted confidant.
Karen is survived by her husband of 55 years Andy Cargile; daughter, Kristen Nacar and husband, Chris of Bedford, Texas; daughter, Kourtney Holley and husband, Patrick of Euless, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Eli, Alivia, and Andrew Nacar and Preston and Kennedy Holley. She also leaves behind many loving and caring friends who are like family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Karen’s name to the Trinity Angel Fund c/o Trinity High School, 500 N. Industrial Blvd., Euless, TX 76039.
