Karen Beth Postema

November 15, 1951 — November 25, 2022

Karen Mouw Postema, November 15, 1951-November 25,2022.
Karen was born to Morris and Wilma Mouw in Hull, Iowa, the fourth oldest of five daughters and five brothers, and was baptized as an infant at First Reformed Church in Hull.
In the earl 1950’s , the family moved to their farm located just east of Middleburg, Iowa and began attending Free Grace Reformed Church where she made Profession of Faith at age 15. She attended grade school at Hospers Christian School in Hospers, Iowa, completing her High School years at Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa, where she graduated in 1969. She went on to attend Northwest Iowa Technical College where she earned a degree as a legal secretary. During her time at NITC, she worked part time at the Sheldon, Iowa Catholic Grade School.
On a snowy evening on March 24, 1970, she married David Postema at Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, Iowa. Subsequently, she gained employment as a legal secretary followed by a time working for the City of Sheldon, Iowa in their billing department and ultimately became an officer-long with her husband David-of Postema Masonry Construction in Sheldon, Iowa.
In early 1978, David and Karen were blessed with their daughter, Alexis Jean and, in the spring of 1983, were blessed with their son, Jackson David.
In 1984, she and David relocated their business to the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX metroplex doing business as Postema, Incorporated. They became part of Bethel Church where Karen was part of several ministries including Bible Studies, women’s events and the church’s meal ministry. Karen and David were also privileged to send their children to Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville, TX and later on to Grapevine High School.
Karen was an excellent cook and baker-she supplied snacks for many church events and her abilities were endorsed by those who “smuggled away” extras “for my wife”. She also supplied countless meals for those who were ill. One of Karen’s sweetest and most well received traits was her love to listen, comfort and gently encouraged her many friends. Many came to love her through the years and-as someone once noted-she had the ability to “light up the room” when she walked in. She spent most of her 52 years of married life loving and spoiling her husband and children and grandchildren with sweet devotion. She was loved because she loved and she loved because she loves her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ-the One who loved her first.
She and David enjoyed some travel. They loved the beach but mostly loved visiting their children and grandchildren. And, because of where their children lived, they were able to visit many lovely places.
In early 2021, Karen was diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Carcinoma. She was blessed by the Lord to have excellent care during the time of this disease. During this time, Karen and David had many opportunities to experience great joy with their family through holiday celebrations, family reunions, visiting and worshipping the Lord together. They always enjoyed being involved in serving along with their various church families.
Karen’s memory is cherished by her husband, David Postema, her son Jackson Postema and his wife Ally and grandson Roman of San Marcos, TX; her son-in-law Justin Rhoads and “daughter-in-love” Jennifer Rhoads and grandchildren Paxton, Levi, Hudson, Adelaide, Roxie and Calvin all of Dayton, Ohio.
She is also survived by sisters Dorothy De Boer (husband Frank) of Holland, MI., Marilyn Westra (husband Glenn) of Rock Valley, Iowa, Judy Hoogendorn of Milford, Iowa, and Cheryl Mouw of Panama City, FL, and her brothers Leon (wife Fran) Mouw of Boyden, Iowa and Glen (wife Lois) Mouw of Sioux Center, Iowa.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter Alexis (Postema) Rhoads, three brothers Warren Mouw, Roger Mouw and Alan Mouw.
