Karen Sterrett

Karen Ann Markham Sterrett, of Keller, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13th in Keller, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague to all that knew and loved her. She was born on November 14, 1951 in Dumas, Texas to Don and the late Frankie Markham. Karen met her future husband, Tom Sterrett, at Amarillo High School. She was in the class of 1970. They reconnected in 1976 and were married in November of 1977. They had two daughters, Tricia and Taren. Karen was an accomplished poet, writer and blogger. She enjoyed the friendships formed in Beta Sigma Phi, of which she was a member for 15 years. In 2003, she went back to school to finish her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from LaTourneau University and graduated in 2006.
She was an active member of the Grace Community Presbyterian Church where she and Tom were involved with missions together. She was active in the Binky Patrol quilting club and worked with several different charities.

Her interests included family, sewing and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as an English teacher to Chinese students. She was a caregiver to her mother until her passing at age 86.

Karen is survived by her father, Don Markham. Her husband of 43 years, Philip Thomas (Tom) Sterrett of Keller, Texas, their two daughters and one son-in-law; Tricia and Douglas Davis, and Taren Walters; her eight grandchildren including Bryce and Tyler McCoy, Alexander Lobozzo, Andrew Davis, Kamri, Evie, Avery and Maximus Walters; two brothers and their spouses, Daniel and Kristen Markham, and David and Addy Markham. She had numerous in-laws; Kay Sterrett (sister-in-law), Elizabeth Ann Prentice (sister-in-law), David and Anne Sterrett (brother and sister-in-law) and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Ruby Womble; her mother Frankie Markham and father and mother-in-law Philip and Kay Sterrett, as well as her granddaughter Kaitlyn McCoy and two brother-in-laws; William Sterrett and Richard Prentice.
The Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday June 27, 2020 at Grace Community Presbyterian Church at 7101 N. Riverside Drive in Fort Worth, Texas. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery and Columbarium in Keller, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Binky Patrol, an organization Karen was involved in which makes quilts for teens, children and babies in need.
