Katherine (Orlando) Meier, 57, of Euless, Texas, died on May 3, 2019.
Katie was born on September 24, 1961, to Joseph F. Orlando and Mary T. Orlando in Chicago, IL, sixteen years after her brother Joseph.
Katie married Matt Meier, the love of her life, on April 27, 1996. He passed away from cancer less than six months later, and she never married again. She remained close with Matt’s family, including Jason and Erica Meier and their four children, Makana, Kruz, Kai, and Melia. She also remained close with her maid of honor, Mary Prouty and her husband Jeff, and two children, Paige and Shea.
Katie was an excellent swimmer as a child. She learned at Eckert Park in Chicago, and surprised people with her speed and strength. She also spent time at Erie Chapel Community Center on Ohio Street, where she studied ballet and other dance.
Katie attended middle school and high school in Streamwood, IL. She met a great group of girls who became lifelong friends and stayed in touch even after Katie moved to Texas in 2004! Katie loved to shop, and always had a full closet of the most fashionable clothes, shoes (too many to count) and jewelry.
Katie was an avid sports fan, especially for the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. The Orlando’s are a huge Chicago sports family and everyone cheers for a win. In 2016, she attended several playoff games for the Chicago Cubs, including Game 6 of the World Series in Cleveland, Ohio. She even stayed overnight to watch Game 7 in a local bar! While she was probably the lone Chicago Bears fan in Dallas, that did not stop her from attending the Chicago Bears vs. Dallas Cowboys game with her family at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX in 2016.
Katherine is survived by her brother, Joseph V. Orlando (Mary Anne), niece and goddaughter Nicole M. Orlando (Matt Ward), and niece Natalie C. (Orlando) Forbis-Stokes (Aaron). She is also survived by goddaughters Makana Meier and Alexis Curtis.
