Kathryn Penry

August 24, 1951 — December 16, 2020

Kathryn Ann Wilson Penry was born In 1951, to James and Vivian Wilson in Houston, TX. She passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Worth, TX, on December 16, 2020. The Penry family is holding a small graveside service on Thursday, January 14, at 10:30 AM at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mt Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211. During this time, flowers are not accepted by the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Penry family respectfully requests that memorial contributions are made to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society or the SPCA of Texas' Mary Spencer Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic at Village Fair.

Born in Houston, TX, and raised in Wharton, TX, Kathy married William “Bill” Penry in December 1969. Married for 35 years, Kathy supported Bill throughout his career as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer and was thrilled as they were stationed all over the world. During their time in the military, Kathy was very active in the morale and welfare programs of Marines and their families. Before Bill retired as a Major from the U.S. Marine Corps, she held various positions within the Officer’s Wives Club, all while raising their three boys. Bill passed in December 2004 with his family by his side. Kathy earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008. Kathy made a name for herself as a proposal manager at DynCorp International in Fort Worth, TX. She loved sharing stories of the great people she worked with and “the old days at Dyn.” After a series of strokes in late 2008, Kathy fought her way back to an independent lifestyle with travel at the forefront. Her experiences with Bill ignited a passion for travel that saw her visiting the Mediterranean, Western Europe, and Scandinavian countries, in addition to regularly visiting her sons across the country. As part of her recovery, Kathy invested time in learning to paint and sew, and made wonderful gifts for her family. She took great pleasure in her grandsons, telling stories to Bricen, FaceTiming with Weston, and making faces at Brock. An avid animal lover, she also took great pride and interest in all of her grandpups. Kathy was a devout Catholic, and most recently a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, TX. Kathy also volunteered with the friends of the Keller Library in Keller, TX.

Kathy is survived by her three sons, Brian and his wife Heather, Josh and his wife Alex, and Travis and his wife Blaire, and by her sister Mary Elizabeth Wilson. Kathy is also survived by her three grandsons Bricen, Weston, and Brock.
