Kathryn Shannon Petersen

October 1, 1939 — August 12, 2021

Petersen, Kathryn Wynelle (Shannon) Kathryn Wynelle Shannon Petersen was born in Fort Worth, Texas on October 1, 1939 to Marvin and Elbertine (Moxley) Shannon.
Kay was involved with music and helped out at the family funeral home while growing up in Fort Worth. She graduated from Ft. Worth North Side High School in 1957. After graduation, Kay enrolled at Texas Christian University. While at TCU, Kay met the love of her life, Chuck Petersen in music class. They were married on April 7, 1960 and began their life together in Fort Worth, Texas. As Chuck moved up the corporate ladder, Kay dedicated her life to him, his career and their children. In their first 13 years of marriage, his work took Chuck, Kay and their children from Texas, to Minnesota, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois and finally back home to Texas in 1973.
While raising a family, Kay also developed a career in real estate. Her personality, work ethic and love for people quickly made her very successful. When Chuck decided to retire in 2000, they moved one last time and settled down on Cedar Creek Lake in Tool, Texas. They quickly became established in the community and started another career together. Chuck and Kay developed a property management company, and at the height of their business, managed more than 20 homes around Cedar Creek Lake. Kay and Chuck were members of Cedar Creek United Methodist Church. They started, developed and ran a charity golf tournament that raised thousands of dollars for the church.
From day one, Kay’s life revolved around her husband and children. She loved being a mother and was very proud of her children and their spouses. One of her greatest joys was being “Mema” to her 8 beautiful grandchildren and 2 precious great grandsons. Kay left this world on August, 12, 2021.
She is predeceased by her father, Marvin Shannon, mother, Elbertine Moxley Shannon, her husband of 60 years, Charles (Chuck) Evans Petersen, two sisters, Martha (Marky) Shannon Hannigan and Don Shannon Morgan and brother, Reverend Marvin B. ((Johnson) Shannon.
She is survived by her son, Charles (Chuck) Evans Petersen Jr and wife Roya, daughter Jana Petersen Kurrasch and husband Kevin, son John Petersen and wife Kay. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Chase Petersen and wife Anna, Brady Petersen, Natalie Petersen, Katilyn Kurrasch, Landry Petersen, Delaney (Petersen) Clements and husband Jordan, Joey Petersen and Mia Petersen.
