Kenita Carol Weldon

May 24, 1956 — August 22, 2020

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8

Kenita Carol Mitchell Weldon passed on to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 22, 2020 at 64 years of age.
Kenita was born on May 24, 1956 in Denton, Texas. She was the first of five daughters born to Kenneth Mitchell and Nita Smyth. She lived her life fully until her last breath.
Kenita gave her life to Jesus at an early age. Kenita showed her faith through her actions. She taught and demonstrated God’s love at church and through her shining light at school. Kenita was selfless, caring, thoughtful, humorous, loving, kind-hearted, supportive, devoted, friendly, gentle, and generous.
Kenita lived throughout the Denton and Fort Worth area. She was a graduate of L. D. Bell High School. She went on to achieve her Bachelor of Education and Masters from the University of Texas at Arlington majoring in mathematics and minoring in physics. Kenita shared her love for mathematics and learning with her beloved students. Her first job as a teacher was at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas where she taught for three years. Then she taught at Haltom High School for 38 of her 41 years of teaching. She was proud to be a Haltom Buffalo. Kenita retired from Birdville Independent School District in 2019.
Teaching was not only a career for Kenita but also a true passion and calling in her life. She had a gift for working with high school students helping them understand that mathematics is more than just numbers but a language of its own. She was not only well respected by her colleagues but by her students. She was an influential teacher, mentor, and friend. Her love for her students was reflected through her sponsoring activities such as UIL and the Math Club as well as her frequent attendance and support of extra-curricular events including watching the Haltom Buffalos play football with her son, Jamie. Kenita couldn’t leave the classroom entirely upon retirement, so she returned as a substitute so that she could see “her kids” graduate. It has been said that she made a difference and a lasting impact on all those around her. We know that these relationships have continued into retirement.
Kenita was a very devoted Christian who loved reading her Bible and having daily devotionals. She was involved with women’s ministry as well as the children’s ministry and taught over 25 years as a first and second grade Sunday School teacher. She was currently a member at Gateway Church- Fort Worth Campus where she developed many special relationships.
Kenita married Don Weldon, the love of her life, on June 29, 1996 at North Fort Worth Baptist Church. They had a deep love for each other and always spent their free time together. She even learned to fly fish because that was a passion for Don and something they could share. One of her favorite vacation sites was Taos, New Mexico, where they spent their honeymoon. They returned as often as possible to enjoy the scenery and dear friends there. Don felt her love daily and said she never spoke a harsh word to him. Kenita was already making plans for their 25th wedding anniversary celebration. Don and Kenita spent their 24 years of marriage raising two wonderful children, Brittney and Jamie. This is another expression of her love for Don. They spent their time enjoying each other and God’s wonderful creations. Don and Kenita shared a love for their pets including Casper, Dillon, and the most recent, a special English Setter, Scout. Scout especially loved Kenita and slept with a paw or head on her at all times. The family was deeply saddened by his recent death. Kenita’s other passions included gardening and bird watching. She also loved studying genealogy and has traced her ancestry back many years. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Kenita was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Mitchell, and step-mother, Dorothy Mitchell, and grandparents, JD and Velma Dison, and Willis and Mabel Mitchell.
Kenita leaves behind her beloved husband, Don Weldon, and dear children, Brittney Lilley (husband, Chase Lilley) and Jamie Weldon, and grandchildren, Cody and Jessica Lilley. Kenita was also survived by her father in-law and mother in-law, Raymond and Glenda Weldon and sisters in-law, Debbie Weldon, Jana Gaffney (husband, Patrick Gaffney), Kendra Lindsey (husband, Rod Lindsey), and Laurel Churchman (husband, Paul Churchman). In addition, she is survived by her mother, Nita Smyth, sisters, Renata Logsdon (husband, Scott Logsdon), Debbie Darter, Bonnie Pigg, Jackie Menzdorf, Kristy Bradshaw, and brothers, Jason Berry and Damon Mitchell (wife, Freda Mitchell), and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, former students, fellow teachers, and a host of precious friends.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:10

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Birdville ISD Clothes Connection, 5308 E. Belknap St., Haltom City, TX 76117.
