Kenneth Bumgardner Ross age 88 of Burleson, Texas went to be with the Lord Friday, October 22, 2021. He was born May 17, 1933, in Washington, Pennsylvania to Kenneth B. and Edna (Robertson) Ross. Kenneth enjoyed snow skiing, flying glider airplanes, Lego Mastering, puzzles, the Schross Aviary bird watching. Ken had a great sense of humor with a slew of one-liners that he could rattle off on cue. Ken was articulate, smart, mechanical minded, and loved a cool Coors Light and good conversation. Ken’s father and step mom Stella Ross moved to Nebraska in 1951 and was employed building the Medicine Creek Reservoir. The family moved to St. Francis where Ken graduated from High School. He played Football and was a Kansas State Champion Wrestler. Ken’s love of snow skiing landed him a slot on the USAF Ski Team. Ken flew a glider plane for 6+ hours crosscountry in England.
He served his country proudly and enlisted in the United States Airforce in October of 1953 until retirement in July of 1982 obtaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Ken had many positions in the Air Force but his main one was Auto-Pilot Mechanic. Ken’s home base while in the Air Force was Lowry AFB, in Denver Colorado. His tours of duty included 3 tours in Okinawa, Florida, Japan, California, Korea, England, Ft. Worth, and Grand Forks. Ken retired in Aurora Colorado until 2017 when he moved to Burleson, TX. In Texas, Ken’s lifestyle changed and he enjoyed the simple things in life: nature, reading the paper, word searches, home projects, and above all his family.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents & stepmom Stella Ross. Ken had 3 brothers Dee Ross, Harry Ross, Sam Ross and one sister Sarah Porting.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Joyce Ross; 3 children Cheryl Wells(Jim), Karen Schaefer, Ken Ross (Layla); 4 grandchildren, Megan Greer (Nathan), Shane Wells, Bradley Schaefer (Samantha), & Leslie Wells. Ken enjoyed his 5 great-grandchildren Kambry, Adilyn, Cannon, J.J. & Greyson immensely. Ken had numerous nieces & nephews.
