Kenneth M. Waters

Kenneth Melvin Waters, loving father of four sons, went to be with the Lord on November 21st, 2018—just six days shy of his 91st birthday.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home Chapel, 518 S.W. Johnson Ave., Burleson, TX. 76028. Rev. Tim Thomas will officiate. Visitation prior to services beginning at 12:00 PM. Ken was born in Skedee, Oklahoma. He loved recalling stories of his childhood growing up on the farm with his two brothers and two sisters. He would always brag about sneaking into the hay barn to read while the others did chores. He was an avid reader and would read and study everything he got his hands on. He went on to serve in the Navy before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. After earning his degree, Ken went to work as a processes engineer for 37 years at Lockheed Martin. His accomplishments are reflected on Lockheed’s “Hall of Fame”, an extreme honor in aircraft manufacturing. His chemical processes are still used throughout the aircraft industry today. Ken traveled the world for Lockheed Martin trouble shooting problems with the F-111 and F-16 aircraft. You could tell what kind of brainiac he was because if anyone visited his office or lab, it looked like a tornado had hit, but he knew where every critical piece of paper was to get the job done. An astonishing man with outstanding abilities!
Ken was proud of his four sons and especially enjoyed being involved in their sports. He coached their little league teams, watched them compete in football, track, basketball and baseball. It didn't matter what sport it was, he was always around in support. The boys loved their Dallas Cowboys and while watching Roger Staubach throw for a touchdown, screaming and yelling to the top of their lungs, they look over and he’s reading the paper. He did love to read!
After his retirement, Ken enjoyed cooking, square dancing, and attending performances at the Bass Hall with his friends from River Oaks United Methodist Church. He was the president of his square-dancing group, he was even known to out dance the young crowd when challenged!
“Pepa” loved spending time with his grandchildren! He was there to support them as they competed in track, basketball and baseball. He traveled the country watching them and was even well known to some of their teams! They always asked ……” Is Pepa here?”
Before his health began to decline, he was able to pursue his love of reading more books and countless bible verses which gave him comfort. Ken will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, constant smile and laugh, and his unique ability to have fun and enjoy life to the fullest, especially with his cherished loved ones.
We would like to thank all of the staff at Brookdale Westover Hills assisted living and Clare Bridge for making him feel like he was part of an extended family. We were welcomed with the same warmth and affection which gave us peace of mind when we weren’t with him. We would also like to thank the caring staff from Mission Hospice. They took care of his physical as well as spiritual needs. The spiritual support was extended to us as well. Both Brookdale and Mission were a blessing to all of us as they all continued to pray for and support our family. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Grace Waters; sister, Leloris Smith. Ken is survived by his sons, Steve and Vickie Waters, Rick and Liz Waters, Randy and Susan Waters, and Ken and Debra Sue Waters; brothers, Bud Waters, Don Waters; sister, Elaine Lobaugh; grandchildren, Angie Meneses, Jacob and Vanessa Gutierrez, Ethan Waters, Amanda Merritt, and Ashton Waters; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, and Joseph Meneses, Yesenia, and Nathan Gutierrez, and Eli Merritt; nieces and nephews, Mike Smith, Pat Ward, Dayna Smith, Linda Brazil, Sue Lobaugh, Nancy Lobaugh, Debbie Lobaugh, Gaylynn Lobaugh, Donnya Waters, Jeff Waters, and Shannon Waters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or River Oaks United Methodist Church.
