Kirby Sr.

April 23, 1937 — December 23, 2012

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Kirby Cox, retired dean of the science and math division of Tarrant County College Northeast Campus, peacefully passed away Monday, December 23, 2012, with his loving family present, in an area hospital at the age of 75 years. He was a great husband, dad and grandfather.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Colleyville with Rev. Lawrence Hammond officiating.

Visitation: Kirby will lie in state Thursday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst.

Burial: Kirby will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. Friday in Lane's Chapel Cemetery near Moshiem, beside his wife of 53 years, Birchie, who preceded him in death September 22, 2010.

Bearers of Kirby's casket will be Jordan Logan, Jeremiah Cox, Kirby Cox III, Nathan Cox, Brandon Phillips and Bart Sims.

Kirby was born April 23, 1937, at the family home near Moshiem to Kirby Cox and Lydia Kliebrink Cox.

Kirby gave his life to his family, his faith and his profession. He served Tarrant County College Northeast Campus for many years and became the dean of the science and math division. He was proud of his many achievements at the college one of which was bringing the Allied Health Profession to the college. Kirby was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and the church. He served First Baptist Church Smithfield in North Richland Hills for many years in many capacities including being chairman of deacons and guiding the educational programs of the church. Kirby suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis for most of his life and was an example of courage, determination and good spirit in his striving for excellence and is an inspiration to all who knew him. The family wants to give special thanks to his care giver, Janet Thompson.

In addition to his wife, Kirby was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leo Cox.

Survivors: Left to cherish their wonderful memories of Kirby are: daughter, Jill Simms and husband Bart, son, Kirby Cox II and wife, Debi; grandchildren, Jordan Logan, Jeremiah Cox, Kirby Cox III, Lindsey Logan, Nathaniel Cox and Brandon Philips; brother Glenn Cox and wife, Audrey; sister-in-law, Dolly Cox, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
