LaFonne Selph Hobbs, 87, passed away Sunday March 15, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 14, 1932 in Duncan, OK to Orda and Ethel Selph. During her childhood the family moved to Texas and upon graduation from Freer High School she and her twin sister moved to San Antonio. It was there at church that she met the love of her life, Bill Hobbs. They were married in June, 1951 and shared a loving life together for 49 years until his death. LaFonne worked by Bill's side operating several family businesses and raising their 3 children.
She was a member of Handley Church of Christ (Village Creek Church of Christ) for almost 50 years. Always active in church, she enjoyed teaching young children as well as the ladies bible class for 36 years. She was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and loved singing hymns. She had a heart for Christian service and became the caregiver for her parents and for many in Bill’s family.
She is survived by her children Sarah (Dale) Henry, Mark (Brenda) Hobbs, Martha (Ronnie) Lee, her brother-in-law Howard Utley, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Those preceding her in death include her parents, her husband and his siblings, and her four siblings: Lois Smith, LaVerne Derseweh, LaVonne Utley, and Ordina Keeton.
The family will hold a graveside service on Thursday afternoon at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville and will schedule a memorial service later this year once the coronavirus threat has dissipated.
