She was born Lana Jeanne McAdoo on June 15, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, to Frieda and Laymon McAdoo. She graduated from Huntington Beach High School. After meeting and marrying Texan Dudley Hodges in 1957, they lived in California for a few years, where they had daughters Darla and Denise, and a son, Daniel, who died as a newborn. The family moved to Austin in 1966, where they welcomed their youngest child, Dale. The Hodges family moved a few times and ran multiple businesses through the years in Texas. Lana went back to school in the early 80’s, earning a Bachelor of Business degree at St. Edwards University, and went on to work many years as an educator for IBM in Austin, Atlanta, and Dallas.
After Dudley passed away in 1990, Lana met and married Joe Hill in 1991. She was proud to be the step-mom to Joe’s kids, Jayson and Julie. With Joe, Lana ran a private investigating business and traveled around the world to places like Japan, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Bali, England, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and Fiji. They also loved classic cars and riding Harley’s together.
Besides being devoted to friends and family, her biggest passion was serving others in her community. Her involvement included prison ministry, Meals on Wheels, mission work, organizing neighborhood events, mentoring young moms, teaching ESL classes, and singing with several church choirs.
Lana is survived by her husband of 27 years, Joe Hill; children Darla Cotter and her husband Mike of Albany, TX; Dale Hodges and his wife Jill of Grapevine, TX; grandchildren Courtney Cotter, Caroline Cotter, Michael Cotter, Sarah Cotter, Hailey Hodges, Hayden Hodges, Tanner Hill, Trevor Hill, and Tyeler Hill; step-children Jayson Hill and his wife Victoria, and Julie Dalby and her husband Jonathan; and her sister Lola; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Scott and Shawn Summers, who lived briefly with her, and a host of friends.
Lana is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Dudley Hodges; her son Daniel Hodges; her daughter, Denise Hodges; and her brother Johnny McAdoo.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed to First Baptist Church of Grapevine’s Wyoming Missions, which was a cause that was dear to her heart to spread the love of Jesus to others. Go to this link to make that donation:
