Laura "Prunie" Pack

November 5, 1952 — December 21, 2024

Laura Marie Pack, affectionately referred to as “Prunie” (a nickname bestowed on her by her adoring father who thought she looked like a prune when she was born) passed away on December 21, 2024, with her son, daughter and brother by her side.

Prunie was born on November 5, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas to E.M. “Bill” Pack and Eudora “Marie” Pack. She grew up in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of Fort Worth. She always spoke fondly of her childhood including being a member of the Meadowbrook Wranglers. She remained close throughout her life to her dear friends from her days at Eastern Hills High School, many of whom came to visit during her final days.

Prunie attended Tarleton State University and spent many years in the Denton area where she raised her children Fred and Rebekah. She worked for the family optical business, Pack Optical, for many years where she doted on her patients and most recently was working at Goodwin Optical in Waxahachie. She loved horses, antiques, “junkin” and margaritas at Joe T. Garcias. She was a talented artist who liked to sketch in charcoal, and she loved to make jewelry, often gifting necklaces to friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She will be greatly missed by her son Fred Placke IV and wife Erin of Austin, daughter Rebekah O’Sullivan of Dallas, son-in-law James O’Sullivan of Dallas, the grandchildren she adored who called her “Lala”, Avery, Gabriel, Charlie and Avner, her sister Joan Mitchell, brother Leonard Pack, sister-in-law Jan Pack, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A formal service has not been planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Dallas Hearing Foundation.

Finally, many thanks to the incredible staff at Harris Hospital whose care was exceptional and made Prunie’s final days so much easier on her family.
