Lawrence Joseph Housey Jr. (Larry) was born on June 15, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisianna to Larry and Mildred Housey.
Larry attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans where he excelled in math and science winning several awards. His Catholic upbringing began the formation of his spiritual growth. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physics from Loyola of New Orleans and his graduate degree in Physics from LSU.
In 1956, he married Jalna Anne Moak. They moved to New Jersey for work. The following year their first son Randal was born. In 1962 their second son Darryl was born. That same year Larry accepted a job with Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX working for Jack Kilby, the inventor of the integrated circuit. The following year they built a home in Dallas which the family would grow up in. In 1971, their third son Matthew was born.
Larry’s career at Texas Instruments would span 30+ years. He also pursued another passion of his, investing, obtaining his securities license as a stockbroker. He spent a few years as a stockbroker and then returned to Texas Instruments before retiring in 1991. The time spent as a stockbroker would lead him to the business he created as an Investment Advisor, newsletter publisher, and commodities trader after he retired from Texas Instruments. He ran this business for the remainder of his life and taught others to trade as he did.
Larry’s interests were many. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and camping. Every place he lived, whether in a home or an apartment, he had a flourishing garden. He acquired this skill and enjoyment from his mother Mildred. Both of them could grow just about anything they wanted to. He also enjoyed camping, so much so that he bought 130 acres of land in east Texas. It was here that his spiritual growth expanded. In 1987, he and his wife Donna joined the Stephen Ministry Program at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas and became Stephen Ministers.
Later in life he joined a Spiritual Awareness group at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church where he continued his spiritual growth. He guided and impacted many others in their spiritual growth.
Larry was known for many things but the one thing that might have stood out more than any other is his self-sufficiency and determination. He lived 18 years after his stroke in 2001. He learned to walk again despite being told by some that he might not. And despite his gradual decline in physical abilities, he strove to be as independent as he possibly could. He was an inspiration to us all!
Larry passed peacefully the morning of July 20, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna, and his three sons, Randal, Darryl, and Matt.
