Lenora Faye Gilbert Courreges of Bedford, Texas, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away June 2, 2018 at the age of 89. Faye was born in Uvalde, Texas on November 8, 1928, the third child of Herman Graves Gilbert and Mary Lucy Gwinn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Allen Courreges, Sr. and a son, Douglas Gilbert Courreges. She is survived by son, Wayne Allen Courreges, Jr., daughter, Suzette Courreges Wright, and son, Daniel Ray Courreges as well as 25 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
She grew up moving between Uvalde and Houston, Texas. On December 6, 1940, Faye, along with her mother, brother and sister, was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. Her father would follow in 1958.
On October 8, 1948, Faye married Wayne Courreges in Houston, Texas. They established their home in Dallas, Texas and subsequently lived in Irving, Euless, and Bedford, Texas.
Faye is known for her life of service and dedication to her family and church. She truly never knew a stranger. Among her accomplishments can be counted – author, artist, baker extraordinaire, seamstress, teacher, student, Dallas Temple staff worker and genealogist. She served many years as the first Director of the LDS Family History Center in Ft. Worth where she assisted hundreds of patrons in finding their ancestors. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames XVII Century, and in 1989 received a 25-year award for her membership and service in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Visitation will be on June 15, 2018 at 10:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, 5312 Bransford Rd, Colleyville, Texas. Interment will be June 18th at 10:30 am at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
