Lester Jimmy (Jim) Davis (Lt. Col. USAF retired) passed peacefully from this life on January 19, 2024. He was an officer and a gentleman, and an adventurer. He was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on August 22, 1932. He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Peggy Ann Perrottet Davis, his sister Sandra McClain (Ken), his two sons, Eric (Theresa) and Kurt (Laura), six grandchildren - Jordan Davis (Ashleigh), Rachel Farrington (Mark), Katlyn Berry (Reide), Sarah Villarreal (Marcus), Hunter Davis (Genevieve), Adam Davis, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Jennings Davis, mother, Sarah Edna Davis, and grandson, Tyler Davis.
Jim was stationed around the world as an Air Force instructor pilot and then went on to become a captain with American Airlines, where he retired at age 60. He and his buddies, many of them fellow retired pilots, then went on a series of motorcycle adventures around the world to places like Europe, New Zealand and even across the Soviet Union. Jim passed on a love for fast cars to his sons and grandsons and was driving on racetracks with them as late as age 85.
Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was adored by his kids, grandkids and great grandkids because he constantly invested in their lives.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly proclaiming, “Wow! What a ride!”
Services pending at a future date at the veteran’s cemetery, DFW National.
