HURST -- Lilla Mitchell Bench, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 19, 2015.
Funeral: 11 am Monday at First Baptist Church of Euless. Interment will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Sunday at Lucas Family Funeral Home in Hurst.
Lilla was born August 18, 1921 in Caddo, OK She was a twin and the youngest of 13 children born to Samuel Bryan Mitchell and Mary Margaret Bellows Mitchell. As a child, she worked on the family farm in Utica, OK; she picked cotton and played basketball. Raised in a Christian family, she learned to trust in Christ not only as the Savior of her soul, but to supply her every need throughout life. She was married January 28, 1940 to Carl Edgbert Bench of Wolfe City, TX who passed away in January of 1980.During the war she worked in the Navy Shipyards as a welder, had her picture taken by the local papers, and the story served as inspiration for the famous "Rosie the Riveter" posters.
Survivors: Lilla is survived by 5 children, Linda Ann Yates and husband Bill of Terrell, Michael Elton Bench of Decatur, Carolotta Elaine Donaldson and husband Ron of Fort Worth, Mary Annette Sheppard of Hurst; and Charlie Anthony Bench of Euless; 11 grandchildren, Steven Welsh, DeAnne Calverley, Richard Welsh, Kathrene Hopkins, Karen Andresen, Alan Donaldson, Craig Donaldson, Kimberly Eichmann, Carl Bench, David Bench, and Barbara Bench; 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.
