Lillie Rose Batiste, age 78, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2020 in the comfort of her home. She was born May 23, 1941 in Plaissance, Lousiana and later relocated to Corpus Christi, where she called home for several decades. It was during this time she established many nicknames for herself. Some of you may have known her as Lillie, Slim, Momma Rose, and Granny Rose just to name a few.
She was definitely a go getter and made sure she did whatever was necessary to provide for her children. Some of her jobs included ironing, maid service, and her favorite, babysitting. She would take care of countless children and it was not uncommon to see about 10-15 children at once in her care. While babysitting was her favorite thing to do, she refused to be called a babysitter and would simply ask to be called Granny because she believed babysitters would not do all that she did for the kids in her care.
Because of her love of babysitting and willingness to help others, she had touched many lives and our family has gained numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, brothers, and lifelong friends. She taught us that family was not necessarily who you were related to by blood. It didn’t matter what an individual's race, creed or color, you were welcomed with open arms and she made sure you made something of yourself if need be.
Granny was an amazing woman who was not afraid to tell you like it is, but at the same time would give you the shirt off her back or the last dime in her pocket. She is truly missed.
She is survived by way too many to list, and if you knew her then you were considered family.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Lucas Funeral Home, Keller.
