Our beloved Mother and Grammy, Linda Hughes, 82 entered eternity with the Lord on Saturday, September 23, in Keller, Texas. She crossed over into eternal life peacefully, by God’s grace.
A doctor helped Imogene deliver Linda In a 2 story home where multiple families resided. There was no anesthesia for Imogene except whiskey! They moved to Fort Worth where she attended Castleberry High School. She was an active member of several clubs and organizations including Choir, Drill Team, and FHA. In 1959 she graduated High School and then went on to study business at Brantley Draughon Business College in Fort Worth. Linda worked as a secretary in many local businesses including LTV. She was an excellent typist.
In June of 1970 she married Allen Hughes. They began raising their girls Melinda and Diana in Arlington. Linda worked as a secretary for many years while also remaining very active in the school lives of her daughters. She served in the PTA, served as a troupe leader for Blue Birds and Brownies, and was always doing special things for her girls, as well as family and friends. We grew up in a wonderful neighborhood with many close friends, thanks to our Mom and Dad. It was a great place to raise a family.
In 1987, Linda and Allen moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Allen grew up and had lots of family. They owned their own business, Filter Services Inc. for 30 years. Mom was the secretary, bookkeeper, and “DO IT ALL” for FSI. She essentially ran the business while Allen took care of the customers each day. They made a wonderful team! Lifelong friendships developed with Allen’s family and friends. Linda now had another family that she treasured greatly. There were so many cherished memories of her time spent with this bonus family… get togethers, cookouts, campfires, vacations….and so much more. She was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church in Mabelvale, Arkansas and spent a lot of time in fellowship and discipleship with a lady’s small group there. She was involved in volunteer service to those around her who were old and in failing health, visiting them and bringing homemade foods and baked goods. She loved using her gifts in these ways. After Allen unexpectedly died in 2015, she stayed in Arkansas to close down FSI. Shortly after that it became clear due to her own health issues that she would need to move back home to Texas to be near her own family. She moved to Keller, Texas to be near Diana and her husband David, and the grandkids. She loved getting to spend time back in Texas with her sister Jerrie and her brother Jimmy. She joined a widow’s small group through Milestone Church and enjoyed many friendships with some sweet ladies. Additionally, she joined a discipleship community group through The Mount Church, where she was blessed to grow in her love of God’s Word and enjoy the fellowship of other dear friends. As her health declined Diana became her primary caregiver.
Mom loved Elvis, and they shared the same birthday! She loved shopping, reading, listening to music, and being with friends and family. She also loved her Dallas Cowboys and her Texas Rangers. Her most favored hobby would probably be spoiling her grandkids. She was a friend you could count on and taught her daughters to always think of others before thinking of yourself.
Linda joins her husband of 45 years, her parents Imogene and Leonard, and her grandson Jordan in heaven.
She is survived by her daughters Melinda (Darrell), Diana (David), grandchildren Ryan, Noelle, Katie, Gabriel and Natalie, her sister Jerrie (Whiz), her brother Jimmy, and nephew Trenton (Lauren) and their son Hank.
While this is the end of Linda’s physical life on earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful life with her Lord and Savior in Heaven.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15: 22
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not
made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgement but has passed from death to life. John 5: 24
