Lois Elizabeth Dunlap

January 2, 1936 — September 20, 2024

Hurst

Lois E. Dunlap (88) of Hurst, Texas crossed from this life on September 20, 2024, to start her eternal one to join her Savior and her husband. Lois was born near Llano, Texas in 1936. She spent most of her young life in Hico, Texas before moving to Dallas with her parents to attend high school at W. H. Adamson where she graduated in 1953 and then went to work for an insurance company while attending college in downtown Dallas. While visiting family and friends in Hico one weekend, she and the girls were out cruising when a handsome young sailor got her attention. They started dating and she married Ramon Dunlap in 1956. They both worked in downtown Dallas for many years and later would adopt two boys and then Lois gave birth to a daughter in 1974. They were members of Cliffwood Church of Christ for many years where Ramon served as an elder and Lois taught Bible School. She also volunteered as a teacher at Christian Academy of Oak Cliff where her daughter attended school. Ramon went on to own his own business as a private investigator while Lois worked for an investigative insurance company until they both fully retired in 1998. Throughout their 47 years of marriage, they travelled all over the United States that included yearly trips to Branson before it was well known. Upon retirement, they were both excited to travel and in 2001 they became Mimi and Pawpaw with the birth of their grandson, Parker.

After Ramon passed away in 2003, Lois had to create a new routine where her social butterfly skills blossomed and she made lifelong friends at Owens and Denny’s restaurants, where they were called the “breakfast club”. In 2007, she was there when her granddaughter was born and for the rest of her years, her grandchildren were her life. She lived a happy and fully independent life until 2020 when she was welcomed into the home of her daughter and son in-law where she remained until her passing. Lois was a strong Christian woman who led a life based on always striving to do the right thing and help those in need. Her life was an example of what her faith had taught her, and she passed this on to her children and grandchildren. She cherished the conversations she would have with Parker “scooter” discussing religion and history and she loved watching her Ashley “tot” grow into a fine young lady, she was so very proud of both. Lois was preceded in death by her parents George and Julia Tabor and husband, Ramon. She was also preceded in death by her biological mother Sarah Halliburton, numerous brothers including Howard Halliburton of Llano, Texas and her sister, Edith Parker of Texas. Those left to grieve her passing but rejoice in her spiritual homecoming are sons Austin Dunlap of Texas, Jack Dunlap of Texas and daughter Susan Irvin “prissy” (Mark Garvin) of Hurst. Grandchildren Parker “scooter” and Ashley “tot” (fiancé Angel Martinez) of Hurst and step grandchildren Hayley Garvin and Joshua Garvin of Glenn Heights, Texas a step great grandbaby Martin and brother Richard Halliburton of Burleson, Texas. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and therapists at Platinum Home Health Care, Medical City North Hills, HEB Hospital, Glenview Wellness & Rehab, Bedford Wellness and Rehab for the care they gave mom these last six months and her primary care physician and family friend Dr. Tammy Tyler who was an angel to all of us. Her daughter Susan was not only her caregiver but her best friend always advocating for her mother and will cherish all the deep conversations shared right before she passed. Her grandchildren would sit with her, encourage her and although her health was failing, she was the toughest 88-year-old lady which goes back to her days of riding in the Hico rodeo as a young girl. During this time Susan, Mark and her grandchildren never left her side, sharing many heart to heart talks, sharing hugs, tears, laughs and moments we will cherish for the rest of our lives. She was ready to shed the body that failed her so she could ride off on her horse and start more adventures with her Ramon “chief”. Our precious mom, our beloved mimi, will always be loved, missed and cherished but she goes onto live through all of us, we were your angels but now you’re ours. Fly high momma, you earned those wings.
