Lois Nixon

BEDFORD -- Lois Nell Dickeson Nixon passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2013, at a local hospital.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Hurst. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lois' honor to a favorite charity or the scholarship fund being established in her honor to help a deserving student further his/her education in care of the Hurst Euless Bedford School District Endowment Fund.

Lois was born on May 24, 1925, in Crowley to Clarance and Ollie Dickeson. Lois grew up in Valley View but spent many happy days at the Crowley homeplace with her special aunt and uncle, Marie "Aunt Reedie" and Fain Stevens, and cousins, Mary Lou and Judy. Lois graduated from the University of North Texas in 1945 with an education degree. On June 8, 1947, she married the love of her life, William Rex Nixon, and they had two children, Nancy and William "Bill" Rex Jr.

A lifelong educator, Lois taught at Ballinger High School, Stephenville High School, Central Junior High in Euless and later became vice principal at Trinity High School in Euless. After retiring in 1992, Lois ran for and won an unexpired term on the H-E-B School Board and ultimately served 7 years.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Lois enjoyed her involvement in many civic and social organizations, including a charter member and the first president of the Oak Crest Women's Club, a member of the Mid-Cities Crimson Toppers, the Bedford Historical Society, the Bedford Public Library Board, and a longtime member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Hurst.

Lois touched many lives and will never be forgotten by those who loved her.

The family wishes to thank Lois' caregiver and companion, Marina, for her compassionate care and kindness over the last 10 years.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Clarance and Ollie; husband, Rex; uncle, Fain; Aunt Reedie; and cousin, Mary Lou.

Survivors: She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband, Rick Hooker, of Fort Worth; her son, Bill Nixon and his wife, Robin, of Sulphur Springs; by granddaughters, Allison Hooker of The Woodlands, Amanda Hooker of San Angelo, Ann Dymond of San Angelo and Caitlan Nixon of Sulphur Springs; great-grandsons, John and Shane Dymond; special cousins, Judy and Chuck Ellis of Huntsville; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
