Lomer Donald “Don” Hunt, 94, retired Fort Worth teacher, coach, mason, rancher, father and grandfather passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

Don was born May 31, 1929 in Ranger TX to L.J. and Peggy Hunt. The family moved to Fort Worth where Don graduated from Carter-Riverside High School. He went on to TCU where he lettered in football, graduating in 1951 and later earning his Master of Education degree. It was at TCU where Don met and married the love of his life, Samye Ziegler Hunt, with whom he would spend 59 wonderful years until her death in 2010. Don & Samye had three children, Bruce, David & Suzi.

Don was with the FWISD for many years, mostly at Stripling Middle School where he was a teacher and coach of the football team. He was a 50 year honorary member of Moslah Shrine, Blue Lodge Tarrant # 942, Royal Arch Mason Tarrant #416, Royal Order of Jesters and served as President of Moslah Temple Shrine Band in 1976. In retirement, Don enjoyed playing golf at Ridglea Country Club, hunting and fishing at his ranch and, with Samye, traveling, dancing and attending TCU football games where he was a member of the Letterman’s Association. He was an inspiration to many that he taught and coached and a wonderful friend to all he met, always a source of laughter and love.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Samye, and sons Bruce and David. He is survived by daughter Suzi Gamez (Edward), grandchildren Lauren Hunt Brogdon (Blake) & Andrew Hunt (Madeline), step-grandsons Charles Gamez (Amy) & George Gamez (Jennifer)and two great-grandchildren. A private burial is planned.
