Loretta Virene James Morgan Almand was born April 5, 1930, in Logan, Oklahoma. She was the first born of Harold and Opal James. She grew up in the Oklahoma Panhandle where she worked on the family dairy farm and loved to play basketball.
Loretta married Calvin Morgan in 1948 and left for college at Panhandle State in Goodwell, OK. Calvin had just returned from serving in the Army and they both attended college in Goodwell. Following graduation, they taught school in Oklahoma and then pursued other employment in Texas. Calvin and Loretta had two daughters, Machelle and Renee, and established their home in Amarillo, TX. Loretta was a schoolteacher and very active in church activities and her daughters' activities. She loved to bowl, and her team won numerous state tournaments. She and Calvin loved to travel in their motor home and made trips with family every year to Colorado and New Mexico.
In 1982, Loretta retired from teaching and spent time with her daughters and granddaughters. She and Calvin became Sojourners and traveled around the country helping churches build and grow. Calvin passed in 1998. Loretta had a close network of Sojourners and soon married a fellow Sojourner, Allen Almand. Loretta and Al settled in Marshall, TX and continued the work of the Sojourners from the main camp in Marshall. They enjoyed traveling all over the country. Loretta loved the church and grew to love the people in Marshall. Al passed in 2011 and she stayed in Marshall continuing to serve her community.
Loretta moved to Fort Worth in 2020 to be close to family. She was loved by her family and friends across the country.
Loretta was preceded in death by parents Harold and Opal, husbands Calvin and Al and brother Max Clifford (MC) and his wife Bonita and grandson, Cole Ryan Morgan.
Survivors include children Machelle and Dale Sumner of Fort Worth, TX and Renee Morgan of Euless, TX. Grandchildren Jessica and Jatonna Deputy and Nicole and Irfaun Bacchus. Great grandchildren Jeremy Brack and Gavin Bacchus.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to High Plains Children’s Home in Amarillo, Tx or Alzheimer’s Association.
