Lorraine (Schelp) Saeger died February 18, 2022. She was born on January 1, 1931, to a widowed mother, Viola (Vogelsmeier) Schelp. Lorraine never met her father, Lorenz W. Schelp, as he had died two months prior to her birth. Lorraine and her older sister, Geraldine (Schelp) Forbes, were raised by their mother and maternal grandparents, John W. and Emilie Vogelsmeier, surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lorraine met her husband-to-be, John R. Saeger, when both were 17 as freshmen in college after they were alphabetically assigned to sit next to each other in chapel. They were married on December 27, 1953 surrounded by family and friends.
Lorraine’s earthly treasure was her family and friends. When Mr. Rogers said to "Look for the helpers. You always find people who are helping", one could say he spoke of people like Lorraine. She never hesitated to help another person whether it was welcoming a newcomer to a church service or a family member with their schoolwork. Her love for her family and friends was reciprocated.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister. Surviving are her children, Linda Myers of Grapevine, TX, Jane Saeger of Adelaide, South Australia, and John N. Saeger of Southlake, TX, as well as grandchildren, Morgan Myers, Jonathan Saeger, Abigail Saeger and Mason Blake, plus nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother and sisters in law, Richard and Sandy Saeger as well as Flo Saeger.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abiding Grace Capital Fund, P.O. Box 93837, Southlake, TX 76092.
