Lt Col (Ret) Mansel (Manny) Monroe Wood

October 20, 1941 — October 13, 2023

Lt.Col (Ret) Mansel (Manny) Monroe Wood passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023 in Ft. Worth, Texas, just a week shy of his 82nd birthday. He was born in Longview, Texas on October 20, 1941 to the late James William Wood and Mary Jo (Welborn) Wood. Manny attended the University of Texas - Hook ‘Em - on an NROTC scholarship, being commissioned in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation. After serving one tour in Vietnam, he married the love of his life, Barbara (Jo) JoAnn Devor on February 15, 1969. He continued his career in the Marines, serving one more tour in Vietnam before adding two kids to the family, Mansel Monroe Wood Jr. and Drady JoAnn (Wood) Stelling. Serving in the military took the family all over the world and they were able to visit Thailand, Okinawa, Spain, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Scotland, England, Italy, Portugal, France, Austria and Germany before returning to Virginia to retire and have a 2nd career in Real Estate. Eventually they made it back to a final retirement in Manny’s birthplace, the Republic of Texas.

Manny always loved working in his yard and gardening. He also had a strong love of animals, and the family had many cats and dogs throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his darling wife Jo and their son, Manny Jr.. Manny is survived by his daughter Drady and her husband, Peter of Frisco, Texas; granddaughter Karlene (Stelling) Hatch and her husband Cade of Cabot, Arkansas, grandson Peter Stelling, who is serving a 2 year church mission in Syracuse, NY and grandsons, Sander and Sawyer Stelling of Frisco.

We are grateful for the full life that he lived and for the time that we were given with him. It broke his heart to lose his wife and son in 2020 and we find peace in knowing that he has reunited with them once again.

There will be a life celebration at a later date that will be communicated by the family.
