It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lt. Colonel Lynn Earl Buckner, a man whose life was marked by unwavering dedication, service and love.
Lynn was born on February 19, 1935 in Liberty Hill, Texas. He peacefully departed this world on November 20, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas in the presence of his wife and daughter. Lynn's remarkable journey through life was filled with courage, honor and humility.
A distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force, Lynn's illustrious career spanned over 22 years, during which he served his country with valor and distinction. His service included roles as a flight training instructor, pilot in tactical airlift, maintenance staff officer and executive support officer. He always had a passion for flying. These responsibilities showcased his unwavering commitment to duty and excellence. During his time serving our country, as a pilot in Vietnam he flew supplies into special forces camps. He received many medals and awards. His professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty earned him the esteemed Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel on February 29, 1980.
Beyond his military service, Lynn was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carole Griffin, whom he married on August 6, 1955. Together, they shared a life filled with love, faith and cherished memories. Lynn was a committed member of various Baptist churches, serving as a Deacon since 1972, including the First Baptist Church of Keller, Texas where his faith was an integral part of his life.
In addition to his distinguished military and religious service, Lynn was a dedicated father to his children Connie, Terry and Gary. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth, Ben, Paige and Tatum. An enthusiast of the outdoors, Lynn found solace in fishing, RVing and indulging in DIY projects. He was an avid football fan and found great joy in games with family and friends. His favorites included 42, Pegs and Jokers and 7's to name a few. His warm smile, gentle demeanor and unwavering support touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Buckner and Eula Hashem and leaves behind his devoted wife Carole, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be cherished and missed by all those who knew him and loved him.
A memorial service to honor Lynn Earl Buckner's life and legacy will be held at the First Baptist Church of Keller on November 25, 2024, at 1 o'clock p.m. This service will celebrate his incredible life, exemplary service and lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him. Lynn will be remembered for his integrity, kindness and unwavering devotion to his family, country and to his Lord. Whenever a jet or plane passes overhead, think of what he would say to his family, "That's the sound of freedom".
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his honor to First Baptist Keller.
