Lucia Pergola Kratovil of Trophy Club, Texas, passed away on October 30, 2019 following a long battle with leukemia. She was born on May 9, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to Rocco and Marian Pergola. An accomplished nurse and beloved mother and grandmother, Lucia dedicated her life to helping others. One of the founding nurses at what is now the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Lucia lovingly cared for thousands of cancer patients over the course of her long career in nursing. Ironically, Lucia’s life ended as a patient at the same world-class cancer treatment center that she had helped to build. Lucia had a long and happy marriage to Charles Donald “Don” Kratovil, and raised two sons, Christopher Kratovil of Irving and Mark Kratovil of Arlington. Following Don’s death in 2008, the light of Lucia’s life became her five young granddaughters—Caitriona, Cara, Kelsey, Claire, and Corinne Kratovil—all of whom live in the DFW area. Lucia often said that her two daughters-in-law, Siobhan Fitzpatrick Kratovil and Deanna Green Kratovil, were the daughters she had never had. As a dedicated medical professional, Lucia was always amused that her sons and daughters-in-law are all lawyers. One of the first residents of the Town of Trophy Club, Lucia stayed in the same home from 1985 until her death because of her deep affection for her neighbors and neighborhood. Lucia is also survived by her nursing family, who rallied to her after her diagnosis. Although happy in North Texas, Lucia always regretted the distance from her large and loving Italian-American family in Denver. Lucia is also survived by her sister, Roxanne Pergola of Los Angeles.
