Lucy Edwina Spear

August 20, 1927 — July 25, 2022

Lucy Spear passed from this life on July 25, 2022 at the age of 94. She was born in Bonanza, Arkansas on August 20, 1927, to John & Nell Douglas. Lucy married her husband, Bill Spear in 1946, shortly after his return from WWII. They attended the University of Arkansas together. Lucy later graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Home Economics Education. She taught at Hamilton Junior High and then, the majority of her career at Central High School. Lucy was instrumental in starting a new class in Education for Parenthood. In 1979 she was voted Home Economics Teacher of the Year for the state of Oklahoma. In retirement, she became a volunteer at Gilcrease Museum and was a docent for many years. Her other interests were reading, writing, sewing and traveling. Lucy was a long-time active member of the Double Ring Sunday School Class at First Christian Church where she was a deacon. She is survived by two daughters: Cynthia Bruce and Stephanie House and husband Steve. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Lucy was preceded in death by husband Bill and daughter Vicki Vandivort.

A memorial service will take place at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX on September 24, 2022 at 1:00pm.
