Lumonia Nadjerene “Nadj” Pankey passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, November 3, 2022, after her long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.
She was born in Marmaduke, Arkansas on June 15, 1938 to James Gail and Helen Tyner Gonser. She had several degrees from Tarrant County College and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University majoring in accounting.
Nadj was a stay-at-home mom until her husband retired from the US Air Force and they moved to Azle in 1974. She started her career working for Tri-County Electric Co-Op where she was promoted to Office Manager. Volkswagen of America was next in her career and then she went on to a position with the Small Business Association in the Disaster Loan area. When she retired from the corporate world, she opened her own business in Azle, TX named Quilts by Eagle Mountain Products in 1997. In the more than 25 years she owned and operated the store, she was instrumental in perfecting the computer guided long arm quilting machines. After purchasing the first machine sold to the public (number three off the assembly line) from Statler Stitcher she worked with Paul Statler and Fred Nolting to correct any problems they had with their new programs. She was also responsible for the sale of many more machines by demonstrating it to potential purchasers of the system. She retired from quilting in 2018 when the Parkinson’s forced her to stop. Quilting was her love and she would have continued until the day she died if she had been able. She made many friends through her store by teaching classes and selling fabric and notions and loved every one of them dearly.
Survivors include her daughters Laura Pankey of Fort Worth, Therese Pankey of River Oaks, her nieces and nephews Diane Shehorn Thompson, Barbara Shehorn DeCapo, Bonnie Shehorn Shaub and William Thomas Shehorn Jr and all of their children and grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Her funeral is November 18th at Lucas Funeral Home at 10 am CST. The service will be simulcast from their site at
